What to Expect at Your First Reiki Session
When you arrive for your first session, there’s a bit of housekeeping to take care of – you will fill out an information sheet about yourself and sign a disclaimer that you do not expect medical treatment from the session. Then we will discuss your reasons for seeking a Reiki treatment. Please note all discussions are confidential.
When the normal, healthy flow of energy in your body is disrupted, it will cause symptoms. A series of hand positions on or above your body will find and open any blockages of your major energy centers. Special attention will be paid to areas discussed at the beginning of your session.
Lying on a massage table, fully clothed, minus your shoes, any jewelry, watch, or belts with large buckles, a sheet or blanket is draped over you to keep you comfortable. Before beginning, you will decide what you would like the energy to do for you. This is your intention or goal. For example, you may want to treat physical pain, release stress, and/or get insight into a problem. As you relax, think about this goal. Trust the energy to help you understand yourself better and it will.
You may feel warmth, tingling, some shifting in your body, and/or very deep relaxation. Colors, sounds, and/or images may be experienced as well. Some people may feel pain or discomfort, which is blocked or negative energy being released from your system. This discomfort is not harmful and may last a short period of time. However, if you feel this discomfort is serious, it is important to report it to the practitioner.
When the session is finished, you will process what you experienced – physically, emotionally, mentally, and/or spiritually.
You will be given water to help eliminate toxins which have been released from your body. During the rest of the day, you should drink more water than usual to continue to dispel these toxins.
Lastly, we will decide if another appointment to continue your treatment and self exploration is appropriate.
